I have just bought a good second hand roof off ebay and am getting round to fitting it when my mate started going on about rivets and such. I thought i could just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one on. Who's right? also what are the best preservatives for keeping your roof in good condition?

depends if your changing the whole roof or just the skin?? if your changing the whole roof theres no rivets etc involved!!take back "door cards" offf undo tension wire undo 6 bolts, disconnect rams, disconnect rear window bolts(4 of),undo 4 bolts holding roof straps on(right at back, can be tricky!!)and hey presto!!!

hope this helps

bear in mind if the roof ur putting on has not been on a car for a while it will have shrunk and wont fit!!!(as i found out the hard way!!!lol)it will seem short and wont reach the top of the windscreen, easily remedied by pouring hot water over it while pullin it tight!!!once closed leave it forr a week or so ,should stretch to shape

Or you could leave it in the sun for a couple of hours, makes them plyable, as for washing it, use a good car shampoo !!!
