Does anyone know anything about the process of removing the trim mouldings from the doors and wings of my mk5 the trim is in terrible condition and i cant seem to find replacements anywhere after trawling ebay etc. Is it possible to remove the trim and strips from the bdy and have the holes filled smoothed out etc. has anyone done this or does anyone know who could do it and ideas of cost. or indeed does anyone know where i can get a full set of new or second hand mouldings. the trim is a blight on an otherwise good looking cabbie. it breaks my heart to look at it !

i think they are just stuck on the body, if ya get a hot air gun on it ya should be able to melt the glue behind it and peal it off, ya can either use thinners or a rubber wheel to remove the left over sticky

as markey with heat (but not super air gun heat) and use a bit of fishing line as a garote (pmsl) and slice it off

As above mate, I took mine off the same way, used a paint stripper gun from a distance, helps doing it in the sun too, pulled them off slowly and used Methylated Spirit and Tar Remover, Petrol works well too but be carful as it can mark paint !!!

They look fine without the trims but you can prob get them in Ford, go for Mk6 ones !!!

I took the trim of mine - just pulled them off! Didn't need to heat them as they were in such bad condition - i found that if you peel it slowly most of the glue and foamy bit comes off in one and then all it needs is a bit of tar remover and a polish!
