hi all really in need of some help, just replace my standard escort bonnet for an rs turbo one bolted in nicely, i then closed it and it now wont open at all!!! the bonnet release cable works fine as you can feel and see it moving but its not doing anything i.e. its not under tension. The latch to open the bonnet moves as well but does nothing? Anyone had this problem of how to open it? somehow its just jammed shut.

Thanks all

not an easy one get another person to push up and down on the bonnet as you pull the cable this sometimes works

yes you need to be able to get your right arm up in front of the rad and follow the cable along to the catch and just flick it open. sounds the same as my prob, the cable has come off its clip at the catch end

By infront of the radiator do you mean betwwen engine and rad fan area or front of car (bumper) and rad? I'm sure the cable is attatched to something its not flopping around in the engine bay, did you just flick it open with a screwdriver? only problem having the mfi xr3i the rad and fan are just massive and take up all the space, but i'll give it ago.

rb16i already tried that method and nothing happend.

hi cliff first of thanks for your help, nope still haven't been able to get the bonnet open and i am confused. You know the bonnet spike can be adjusted could it be the fact that on this bonnet it was adjusted for a different tension so when closed the spike has just jammed shut? the cable is in the correct places i've managed to take the bumper off but still the bonnet will not budge. My dad is gonna give it ago and he says the spike will have to be undone, another extreme is to trash the old rad (or take it off) so that i can have acces and push out the spike.

Anyone else have any ideas how i could open this stupid bonnet?!

finally managed to get the bonnet open, big thanks for cliff's help. in the end someone to hold on the bonnet release lever and i just wiggled the bonnet side to side and it free'd it. The spike was way under tenstion so removed that and put my old one in works a treat now!
