Hi i'm new to this so bare with me! I have a 1985 1.6i in mercury grey. I love it but its outside and starting to rust, i know a guy who quoted me £300 to do up the sills and wheel arches and some rust on the bottom of the doors, just wondered id this was reasonable. Also my front and back bumpers are dented, is it possible to get them straightened out or is it best to buy new ones? its got the original hood which is doing well for its age really, have some water in sometimes at the corners, i understand this is common, would new seals do the trick? if anyone has any advice it will be much appreciated! like i say, i dont know much about cars but ive wanted cab since i was 4 so i got one! i was also a bit unsure about doing it up, its done 95000 but runs great. thanks

300 pounds is cheap mate. but be careful of the type of job that will be done. it may only be a short fix for that price. as for the bumpers, it is possible to get the striaghtened. at what cost tho i couldn't tell you. but i recon it would be easier to get some off ebay from one that is being broken.

roof is normally the seals mate. depending where its leaking in to

Ment, £300 pounds seems very cheap for repair of rust in the sills and arches. You would need to find out what the guy is going to do. Steel's right, will it be an Isopon filler job with loads of paint, or will the rust be cut out and new metal let in.

Both may look the same initially, but the filler job will start to show rust as soon as it gets wet.

Steelcabbys right you will only get what you pay for with paintwork, might look ok for a while, then the rust starts coming back and you have wasted all that money, a good price to go by and this is just a rough idea is 100 pounds a panel, treatment to rust and dents will be extra.

I haave seen hundreds of paint jobs if not more and only a small percentage are done properly.
