Guest steelcabby
on the mk4 hinges, there are E-clips that you need to slide off, and the pins knock up as far as i know. then this will release the door but get this checked. i think the mk5 have screws in the side to release the doors. check for a head on the pins. they may unscrew, but i think they knock out Edited April 12, 2008 by steelcabby

Guest ANDYA
Door removal MK4. 1. Open the door fully and support its lower edge on a jack or blocks, cover with a cloth to prevent damage. 2. Unscrew the 2 bolts that attach the check arm to the body, and disconnect the arm. 3. Remove the scuff plate from the sill at the bottom of the door opening. 4. Unclip the lower cowl trim panel and radio speaker, careful this is fragile, take your time. 5. You may need to remove the heater duct to improve access to hinge bolts. 6. Disconnect wiring multi plug if central locking, electric windows are fitted. 7. Unbolt the lower hinge from the body pillar, careful, its easy to drop the bolts into the cavity! 8. On the MK 4 you can't easily reach the upper hinge bolts due to the dash. You will need to extract the pin from the upper hinge assembly. There is a special tool for this 41-018 but you can make one with a u shaped cut out that will engage under the head of the pin. A large flat head screwdriver can be adapted for this. Strike the tool downward at the bottom of the pin,to remove the pin. When refitting, tap the pin upwards into place. When refitting, dont full tighten the lower hinge bolts until the door is correctly aligned. They can be tightened from inside when all is ok. Hope this helps, assistance will make the task easier. Guest Eggsy
if you take your clocks out the top hinges on o/d are reachable
Guest steelcabby
thought it would be easier to remove the door from the hinges rather than removing the hinges with the door. lining it back ups gonna be a pain in the ass
Guest ANDYA
Steel, I don't think it's an option with the lower hinge, the pin doesn't come out, and it's only an option on the upper because the dash makes it very difficult to reach the hinge bolts. You're right tho', it is a pig of a job! Andy
