Hi, i know im new to the club and i didnt want to start of with problems so im sorry before we start, i dont want to be one of those that just take and not give.

The old mk5 has been sat on the drive for 12mths with a flat and usless battery, i got a new one today with the intentionof starting it and getting it inside the garage to start work on it, BUT it wont start ?

I put the alarm/emob fob in the dash, light goes out, turn the key dash lights come on but nothing, there is a clicking soud that sounds like indicator on coming from the central door control panel under the dash .

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS. THANKS TONY

mine does the same with(mk6) a non transponder key could the battery in the fob be flat too(if it has one). is the sound that you hear possibly the starter trying to work? try rocking it back and forth or even push it/tow it a few yards in gear to free everything up?? dunno if this is good advice or even safe. may help tho

Hi Thanks for the reply, The Transponder doesnt have a battery, when i plug it into the dash the light on the dash goes out as it should,i then put the key in, turn it the dash light comes on but then the clicking starts, but no noise at all from starter just as though the battery is flat but its fully charged

after 12 months i would first try to tow it or push/rock it. maybe the starter has packed up. mine does nothing if the incorrect key is not used. nt even clicking. at least if you get it started then you can replace the starter. my vito van worked perfectly wit a flat battery after a short bump start.

process of elimination, does the mk5 have a ecu?

if so maybe get that checked for faults

No ecu on it its a 1.4 escort dash. i will try towing tomorrow, i am wondering if cus the battery was flat for so long if its got anything to do with the imobalizer ( factory fitted ) is there a way to bypass it ?

sounds like a starter motor prob the clicking when you turn to start should be the starter soinoid. sounds silly but check the main bat wire is still on and tight.
