hi can anyone tell me how to replace a split outer cv boot please

if its on a mk4. jack the car up. take the wheel off. undo the track control arm from the bottom of the hub, lift the hub off the track control arm. turn the wheel so it faces outwards. pull back the old CV boot. there is a circlip inside where the shaft goes into the joint. you need some circlip pilers to pry it open to release the shaft so you can slide the CV boot off and slide the new one on. then the shaft should clip back into the joint. easy peasey.

takes about 30 mins. make sure you put the new grease in and make sure you put the clips on nice and tight. any problem give one of us a shout

Its very similiar on MK6 to the MK4. You still have release the bottom ball joint (swivel joint) & the track rod end from the hub to get enough movement to release the cv joint. Whereabouts are you m8?

I put a new boot on my Brother's Micra. It was one of those that you don't have to take anything apart. It comes split, you remove the old one, fit this in its place and then the edges glue together. It passed the MOT no problem and its been used daily for the last 6 months. It was fiddly but probably easier than having to take things apart. Cost £12 from local motor factor.
