Strut brace has been on a couple of weeks now, and am actually going to try and bolt it down this weekend.

So whats the best (easiest lol) way to get it bolted down????

Ive been looking for some short 6or8mm self tapping hex head screws as one option,

I would prefer to drill and tap for 8mm capheads, but dont know if the skin of the suspension turret is thick enough to take a thread.

I really dont want to remove the wheel arch liners to get a nut up behind, but will if that is the only option.

wot dya reckon guys and girls?

cheers

i'd go for the self-tapper option ........should be fine with those

cheers lads, will take some 6 and 8mm cap heads home tonigth, see which size suits brace holes best.

think i will have a go at tapping the first one, see how thick the turret skin is, have some self tappers on standby.

glad no-one has mentioned nuts yet pmsl

not that Im lazy

what i did was to do this...

Image0181.jpg

i marked where the holes were needed after lining the strrut tops up right, then centre punched a hole in the locations, and drilled through using a 7mm bit i think it was. i then used the allen head bolts as seen ith a washer and underneath i used the shoulder nuts which have a sort of washer built into them.

you WIL NOT be able to get the bolts in on the innr most holes without removing the suspension. i just left them out.

hope that helps.

if you wish to tap the rule is - the bolt must go in at least the diameter of the bolt, ie if its a 6mm bolt you must have at least 6mm thickness of material, any less and it will not be at full strength and if its more then thats a bonus. a bolt only has to in into a material the distance of its diameter to achieve full strength, hope this helps.

secured it today...decide on a best of both worlds approach

used M6x25mm capheads, decied to tap them, got a 3/4 of threads in all positions, luckily always on double skin part of turret, got six in but then snapped the tap :-( (been a while since i was on the tools and i didnt have any cutting fluid, will be the excuse I stick to), will do the inner ones when i get another tap.

next time i need to take the wheels off I will put some nuts up behind and give it a proper tighten.

thanks for help and advice guys

Thought about getting a front end strut brace myself and I know how to fix 1 in but what is the best way to set 1 up???

Front end under full weight, with it jacked off the ground or jacked up half way.

What the thoughts on this ?

you can get an adjustable 1 from pj motorsport but i cant see the point i na ndjustable strut brace s you just adjust it and bolt it on and it wont really do much???

mine went on fine without jacking it up sometimes easier to jack it up though
