the guy who owned my cabby last has totally butchered the wiring at the rear of the head unit. im just wondering what colours do what. ive figured out the speakers but what coulours as standard is everything else, im really lookin for the power aerial, constant live, ignition live, dimmer and negative. im a rookie at this so dont laugh if i sound stupid lol

normally its:

red = + Power/live

black/brown = - earth

yellow = permanent feed to memory (radio/clock settings)

blue = electric arial/remote to amp

i wire:

red/yellow to vehicle + power (red), black/brown to vehicle - negative (black/brown), blue goes to remote to amp or arial.

hope that helps....

as above with what nick says but some such as mine were fitted with a basic radio so wires such as illumination yellow/grey are not present and likewise for the electric ariel but its no big issue to run these wires in yourself from the required source

pick up a 12v feed from side light switch down to lights which will appear when lights are on , either on wiring to stalk or switch, not sure what you have on your model.

so lights on=12v radio dims

and lights off no 12v so radio brightens

i would put an inline fuse in to protect radio if it doesnt already have one

better idea, just splice into the dashboard illumination feed which is used to light up switches dials etc, you will probably have one in the switch array just above radio.

drawings show

1. red = permanent live for memory

2. yellow = ignition pos1 live via 2A inline fuse

3. grey/yellow = dim/lights

4. red/white = electric ariel

5. brown = earth

these should be the original colours. invest in a 12v tester from spares shop, test 1,2&3 to chasis (or brown) before connecting
