Hi,

Is the engine loom for an Escort a simple connector to connect it on the bulkhead like some cars, or am I going to have to rip my dash out to fit the engine loom. I have a CFi CVH currently.

Andy

The engine loom does unplug from the main loom, as you say but, iicr, the Zetec plug has more wires than the CVH.

Okay, so that means I will have to do some serious wiring?

Also, reading the conversion thread, why do you have to change the water pump on a Mondeo 1.8? (What I have,) surely although it spins in the different direction, you can still use it?

Anybody done the wiring on a CVH to Zetec swap, desperate for information!

Regards,

Andy

hello mate. where are you firstly?

i have just put a 1800 zetec engine ion my 90 spec efi escort xr3i. i used the original loom. i am currently running it withou maf sensor, lamba sensor, or cam sensor. it flies with the cvh fly wheel and the cvh gearbox as well as the cat being removed.

you have 2 options...

1-use the zetec loom, but it would involve a bit of jigery pokery withg the wiring to get it to fit and to run.

2get yourself a 1600 efi cvh loom and ecu and runn it like that. the fuse box will be in the right place too.

if your local/near to me, come round and have a chat. i am no expert, but i have done this now. i live in telford, west mids. or give me a bell. 07849937253

Its a good conversion....i did it in my last MK4 cab, 1.8 Mondeo engine, no cat, zetec engine loom, mongoose exhaust, 4 branch..........went really well!!

But i never changed the water pump!? Still worked fine!

with the 1800 engine you dont need to change the water pump. nor do you need to change the sump, pick up, dipstick tube or oil strainer.

i went with the 1800 for that reason. it is a far easier swap.

with regards to the efi loom, you will need to extend a few plugs, and use the over the top inlet manifold not the plastic round the back type from the zetec so it dont fowl on the brake bar.

you will need a modified engine mount too. these are easy to pick up. go on the forums like passion ford, and look on ebay.

anything else, just ask.

Thanks guys, you've been a GREAT help! (Much friendlier than "another Escort forum")

So the engine, with a modified mount will drop straight into a mk5a CVH CFi!? :banana_dance: Been told I'd pretty much need to get a Zetec'd scrapper and swap everything over including the flywheel, sump, pickup etc....

I have a standard mk5 Escort gearbox (IB5) so that will be okay with the Mondeo engine bolted to it, on the Mondeo flywheel.

The main thing that worries me is the wiring, if I get hold of an EFi loom, does plug straight into the back of the fusebox to replace the existing engine loom, or is it more tricky than that? I'm fine with the mechanical stuff, (was training as an mechanic sometime in the past LOL) but the electrics scare me!

Kind Regards,

Andy

Get an engine mout off a MK5 Escort with a zetec in it, any zetec. As 4 the loom, it plugs in the engine bay, in front of the heater motor, not into the back of the fusebox. It depends where your exsisting engine bay loom plugs in.

The gearbox'll fit as long as the engine didn't come out of a car that had a MTX75 'box, 240mm clutch-bigger flywheel

my advice was for a mk4 not 5. sorry mate. didnt realise.

No bother mate, like I said, nice to have some replies unlike another forum. :throw:

The engine came with an MTX-75, which is free to a good home if anybody wants to collect it, so replacement flywheel, sump etc it is.

Its a winter project, so I'm in no hurry. Would be nice to spend next summer driving a cabby that didn't have a 140,000 CVH in it though, with a slipping clutch!

Andy
