Roof Pump Problem

Right I managed to get a mk5 pump and rams from a local breakers yard, looks in good nick etc. Connected it to my exsisting wiring, (which previously worked). I get a live feed when I press the button, but the pump doesn't make a noise.

Does this mean I've eneded up with a dud, or am I missing some thing? I have installed it yet, just had it in the boot to check if it worked ok.

Any help appreciated.

I strip the pump to check the plastic cog, but could not find it, not that it's missing, there's no where for it to go. Did some pumps not have the white cog?

Theres a round piece with little bars in it, which the motor fits onto, would this do the same job?

Right an update

I put the pump across the battery and it worked fine.

Plug into the car and nothing at all when I press the switch

I checked the wires at the switch and the yw/gr and wh/bl have a voltage when the ignition is on, my test light didn't appear as bright as it should though. I checked in the boot and get a voltage when I press up or down on either wire. But the pump dosen't work.

I have a late mk6 (10/1996). The pump I've got has come from a mk5. The part number on the pump starts 91. Is the wiring different in the mk5 to the wiring in the mk6?

It's annoying me now. The electrics worked fine on the old pump before I took it out.

My mk6 only has 3 relays, one for the safety feature and one for up and one for down. can't here them when I press the switch, as switch clicks too. When I used the test light and touched the contacts on the switch the relays did click.

Could it be an earth problem?

Just check connections at relay connecters and all fine.

I thought I'd check the pump connections again, when the button is not press, both wires are negative, when I push the up button, it turns positive, hence one of each and should work pump. When I press down the light stays on, showing it's still negative as is the other wire. Would this indicate a relay problem and will the roof only work if both relays are working?

Well spent another couple of hours trying to fix this, but still not joy. If I put pump to pos and neg it works, so at least I know my new pump works (bargin as I got it for £20 from the scrapyard with Rams). Just annoyed the wiring has packed up, I think I'm going to pop back too the scrapyard and get the loom out for the roof and start from scratch.

Out of interest what colour should relay 3 be? Mine is currently green, but pin 87 goes nowehere, it use 87a instead. According to the diagram it should use pin 87, just wonderinf ig this is the problem.

altirght dave, will send you some more info on your mail, but I would look here first. Dont know what colour the relay is but the drawing definately shows the violet blue wire on relay k101 on pin 87, that measn this relay would would act as though one of the push button switches in roof were made. Its definately woth swapping it to match the diagram.
