  1. Hi all, hope someone can help. I bought a Escort Calypso MK7 yesterday - a good little deal, I think. Low mileage, looked after, although apparently the roof didn't work but could be operated manually easily... I got it home and checked around the net a little re potential roof issues, as O heard you could prob pick one up on ebay for £70 and the thought of having to manually open the roof didn't bother me too much. Out of interest, I thought I'd see if the motor actually worked first - it did. We played around with the 'tap' and found that closing the that allowed the pump to open and close the hood. Result! Cheap car with a working roof as a bonus! Then I noticed that the motor stops about half way thru opening or closing. The roof and won't budge again - it doesn't move at all (doesn't even try) for a good 10 seconds or more. Then, a few moments later it'll work again. Sometimes for a couple of seconds before it stops, sometimes it'll go the rest of the way. It's almost like something you'd expect when something overheats and won't work until it's dropped to a workable temperature again - like a hairdryer cutout would work, I guess lol. Checked fluid level - in the middle of the two markings. I've checked over a lot of posts but nothing really answers my questions on how to fix this or what the problem might actually be so thought I'd post. Any help or advice would be truly appreciated on how I can get the roof working properly, as it seems to be a waste if it's very nearly working as it should after paying aprice where it supposedly didn't work Also, what is the 'tap' exactly? Is it literally something to 'engage' the motor with the roof so you can mannually use the roof if the electrics fail?
