  1. Anybody need a 1.6cvh 1986 engine ? Im in scunthorpe north lincolnshire. I got the engine from my buddys kit car it was a recon and working well but he put a redtop unit in ..i had the thermostat housing off it fir my cabby and its sat in my garage for 5 years..i turn it over regularly..it looks good and clean inside and scruffy outside..i know i t ran ok..and would be a goid source for parts ..pistons cam etc..but tbh i will never use it in mine i would rebuild my own engine if necessary to keep authenticity..heaven forbid it ever needs a rebuild..

any way its free if you want it but youll have to collect..bring some muscle as my back is wrecked ..cheers Springy.

Yup. Sounds like a leaking heater matrix. Time for a new one I am afraid.

If you unbolt the heater box you can drop it down a bit and twist it a bit and the matrix will come out if you hold the clutch pedal down.

ah thankyou , i had a little look in the haynes manual (which i should have done fisrt) and realised it a lot easier than i expected..then looked up prices and theyre a lot cheaper also !! bonus..

thanks for your reply i appreciate the help..cheers Springy👍

  3. hi all my mk3 1.6 cabby just started to leak coolant inside the vehicle down by the clutch peddle seems yo be a bit damp with a drip at the bottom of thr heater box thers some screws that appear to hold a clear or opaque plastic section o to the heater box..it only drips after engine is stopped and lefy ovet night..heater is working fine..no overheating and coolant level not noticeably dropped...anyone had this issue before i start tearing it all apart?

    thanks in advance ...Springy👍☮❤

  4. Ps there is no rust anywhere structure or body its in original paint ...it is completely stock ..not even so much as a furry dice !!

I changed the full braking system cooling system ignition system tyres starter cambelt waterpump ...and valvestem seals and hydraulic lifters..and went through top end ...all parts were stock not mods ..i dud ditch the vv carb and put on a weber direct replacement but not a twin choke or anything upgraded a straight swap with standard air fiter housing...

It even has the original ford hubcaps...

The mot guy said its in better nick than when it was built !! Allowing for exagerration of course !!

Ok need to get some pics...up ..somehow 😊

  5. Hi im very sad to say we are going to have to part with my beloved Mk3 cabby..

I would like to ask if anyone knows a way to value it ..and where to advertise ..here is one obvious place of course..

    Its a very rare 1984 B reg 1.6 cabriolet..

    In loved condition...

The last mot tester said its in better nick than when it left the karmann factory!@

Any advice would be much appreciated ..thank you..Paul (springy)

  6. You could get a multimeter on the connector to the rear screen elect to see if power is getting that far. Assuming it's getting past the switch...and look for a break in the screen heater element itself ...on my mk3 the element is stuck on over the glass not sure if it's laminated in on later ones....

  7. Sorry , regarding parts everything mechanical I have found on ebay (new parts) or through eurocarparts who stock lots of stuff ie brakes clutches batteries etc etc all the consumables even brake master cylinder ...luckily I've not needed any ford tied bits yet...oh and burton power have some great stuff too...and burton power are a wealth of knowledge not just for tuned up speed freaks but for standard kit too....

  8. Just to add...the rear window element /heater mine wasn't working I checked fuse and relay and both were fine then while I was checking the switch it decided to work intermittently then I did the old guitar switch trick of turning it on and off about twenty times which dislodged corrosion in the switch and it works fine everything now..so fuse check relay check switch check/agitate ....

Parts are hit n miss I've found everything so far for my old mk3 apart from a servo but was lucky as the servo is OK...

Hope you get some stuff sorted and on the bright side I have spent hundreds of hours getting mine in healthy condition so you should be in a better starting place (hopefully) cheers and good luck and don't hesitate to ask ,I have limited knowledge and many people here have lots of knowledge...all the best Springy.

  9. The revs drop can be a servo vacuum leak or faulty servo/vacuum 1 way valve or connector or pipe..the hard peddle points to servo also..you can probably fix 2 probs on one if you find the servo vacuum leak...

As for the clutch release bearing ,noise is usually followed by a collapsing clutch...sorry ....

  10. Just did a video in speaker rot !!! It kills bass...youtube springy2112 you can see the speaker outer soft ring rots away this is where the bass response comes from ie only the middle treble cone working...mines a mk3 1984 but even at 20 years old I wouldn't be surprised if your speakers are shagged...and yes your head unit will have a electric aerial output..

Wipers don't wash and wipe auto..sorry this has been said above....

  11. Ah hello there , well I am hoping it can be repaired when I said trash I meant nor working yet !! You know I don't like to be defeated...

OK there's power getting past the input and transformer to various parts and also lower voltages going to other bits but there's no lights on or any sign of life..

The belt is snapped on the tape but that's not unusual common and can be replaced...I've had a couple of hours inside it with multimeter but got to the limit of my knowledge...but all is not lost...I'll soon be taking one of my b&o units for a service and belt change and I'm thinking if this guy can pull apart and service and repair bang and olufsen gear I'm sure he'll be able to sort an old cassette radio...it's far simpler inside than the b&o believe me..

I think I will try to get it repaired as it would just be awesome to have original audio in the hole ..particularly as the original loom has not been hacked and is so simple....watch this space it ll be a couple of weeks till I get to take the hi-fi to the repair gut via the b&o shop ...

    Cheers ....
