Start with the obvious checks like battery condition and check the output of the alternator. After that you need to start looking at the starter motor and the wiring. Check all the terminals are clean and tight to the starter. Then check all your earth straps. Their will most likely be one to the gearbox housing and another from the inlet manifold bracket.
A common problem with the starters are that they become very hot from the exhaust downpipe and over the years it takes it toll on the grease etc inside the starter. If this is your problem whilst the engine is hot It will give flat battery like symptoms. The most common fix for this is to replace the starter with an early model transit connect diesel starter. They are a direct fit and are stronger. Hope this helps.

I struggle to get pictures up on the site. I do most of my forum browsing from my phone and that to be fair is where most people have there photo's
An easy format to select a photo and upload it would be good.
Unless it's already changed, I think most people have to try and use photo bucket or similar.

Good point. Will the club be able to view what members have booked to attend so we have an idea of numbers?

Just been reading your thread from start to finish. Great journey so far mate. Keep it up. I have a red cabby aswell (89) and looking forward to getting out and about with club at meets next season. Look forward to seeing you and your cab.

Surrey, south london. But i intend to drive her to silverstone. Would be great to meet a few of the guys and get an opinion on my cab.

Lancaster it is, covered from midnight £192 fully comp. now to get her taxed for august and get her along to her first ford fair.
I know i wont be on club stand like many of you guys but was wondering if any of you expierenced lads in the cab world would spare 10 mins to look over my new toy. Im not new to fords but its the 1st cabriolet i have ever owned and would value any opinion.

Mines hooked up to one all the time ollie. It's a smart charger that detects when fully charged then holds it charged till you remove it. Can't remember the make/model off the top of my head. Will check it and let you know.
