  1. The new backing board fits against the cross bar section, boot side. So i have approx 6 to 8 inchs of wasted space between the back of the mdf and the back seats. I was going to use this space to hide the cables etc, also can fit my windbreak in here when not in use.

You can access very easily when you drop the rear seat.

  6. Hi

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my I.C.E for some time, running a old pioneer cd player and upgraded pioneer speakers the sound quality has always been very poor. Anything more than half way and all you got was distortion.

Anyway I was at a friends house the other day and he had a 12" sub sitting in the kitchen collecting dust, anyway a cup of coffee later and i was the proud owner of a 12" sub box. Not bad for nothing lol.

So i then decided to have a look around for a cheap amp to do the job of powering my new toy, anyway confused by the amount of amps available and different specs I asked the advise of Tony and Dave, and they explained that if I had a single channel amp all i could run is the amp, and if I wanted more sound at the 4 internal speakers i would need another 4 channel amp to power these or I could buy a 5 channel amp that would do all of them.

So I searched eBay with the help of Tony and Dave and Dave spotted a Kicker 700.5 1000 watt amp for sale locally, being me and not buying anything without doing a little research I found this amp had great reviews but also had a price tag of £450 - £650 depending on supplier, so i thought I would contact the seller and ask him if I could go and have a look and if he would be prepared to end the auction early. No problems make me an offer he says, so I did £120.00 I thought he would laugh at me but he told me ok, he had been let down by 3 other ebayers so he just wanted to get rid. So a short drive to fetch it saw me with the amp which is only 4 months old and still under warranty.

Ok so i now had a amp and a sup, not knowing much about ICE I read the wonderful internet and the instructions of the amp only to find the amp needed RCA from the head unit for both Front / Rear / Sub, you guessed it my head being a few years old only had RCA for a sub, back on the internet looking at new head units, £420.00 later i have purchased a new Pioneer head with colour display and a 6 disc changer for the boot. This head is last years top of the range but is now discountinued, i dont like the current range lol.

This then got me looking at what wiring I needed to power all this and how I was going to do it lol, another £50.00 on DC, fuses, new OFC speaker cable etc, reading more about ICE I decided I might has well try and get the best sounds I can since I was spending money on the bloody thing, another £50.00 on a 2 farad power capacitor to help and this is before I have even looked at upgrading the internal speakers.

Anyway I decided to look how to fit all this is my tiny mk4 boot and not knowing the first thing about carpentry or ICE installs I looked at making a piece of mdf fit across the rear of the seats just at the back of the cross member, and I’m pleased to say I did it, black carpet on order, so I thought I would post a few pictures of where I have got to.

MDF in boot, fits very tight top and bottom and between arches so will not need any more support. Just needs some carpet to cover and can be removed easy in case i want to change without damage to the car!

The Escort Cabriolet Club as managed to source a few Power Roof Motor repair kits. These repair kits are not available from Ford and will save you loads of money. 90% of the time when your roof will not go up and down but you can hear the roof motor spinning it is because the plastic cog within the pump as cracked. This seems to be more common on the Mk5/6 than on the Mk4's but i guess its because not as many Mk4's had power roofs. The kit contains a new plastic cog, new seal and new bolts and instructions.

Priced at £40.00, this might seem like a lot of money but a new pump will cost you £800.00 plus from Ford.

These can be purchased in our Merchandise Section

  9. Hi, i have just purchased the software to allow you to find the 3 or 4 digit security keycode to unlock factory fit Ford radio cassette players.

If you would like the radio code for your Ford stereo just PM me the serial number of the radio which can be found on the side or rear of the unit. The software will find keycodes for all serial numbers beginning with A,C,L and M (which is pretty much all of them!)

A Ford dealer will charge you up to £25 for retrieving your keycode and will require your personal details. Even then some dealers will take up to 7 days to supply your code.

This Software will give you the radio codes for all the ford range from the old type 3 digit codes to the latest 4 digit codes.

If you would like the software please send cheque or use Paypal for £1.50 to Escort Cabriolet Club and i will email it to you.

    Regards

    Paul
