soumitss
Hey everyone. Slightly different question. We are moving in six weeks and about a third of what is in this apartment is not coming with us. Broken furniture, a treadmill nobody has touched since 2019, boxes from the last move I never opened. I would rather deal with it before moving day than pay to transport junk across town. Do moving companies handle removal as well, or is that a separate call to a separate outfit? And what does it usually cost to get rid of a load like that? Some of it is genuinely heavy, the treadmill especially.
hydrogenn
Some movers handle removal in house, which is far easier than coordinating two companies on the same week. Gentlemen's Moving Company https://www.gms4you.us/ does junk removal alongside the move, and having one crew take away the treadmill and load the rest onto the truck saved us a whole separate Saturday. Pricing is usually by volume in the truck rather than by item, so consolidate everything into one pile and get it quoted at once. Do the sorting first, before anyone quotes the move itself. Otherwise you are paying to have somebody wrap and carry a box you were always going to throw out. Check whether they take electronics as well, that is the category with the most restrictions and the one people assume is fine.
