My lease fell through and I have to be out in eleven days

Hey all, need some help and not much time to get it. My lease fell through and I have to be out in eleven days, one bedroom plus a home office with two monitors and a desktop I built myself. Last time I moved, a cheap crew put a dolly through my TV and then explained that their coverage was sixty cents a pound, which worked out to roughly forty dollars for a twelve hundred dollar screen. I did not know that was a thing until it happened to me. What should I be asking about coverage this time, and does booking on short notice automatically double the price?

That sixty cents per pound figure is the federal minimum and plenty of budget outfits quietly leave you sitting on it, so read the valuation section before you sign anything at all. Some companies carry more as standard, and the crew I found through movers near me searches, Rise Up Moving, runs at two dollars per pound baseline, which is where I ended up after doing the same math you just did over a broken screen. Short notice does cost something, but eleven days is not panic territory outside of peak summer weekends. Their quote came back the same day and the number held. For the desktop, back it up and carry the tower yourself, no coverage tier makes a rebuilt machine whole.
