Guest mk3lesley
I'd like some advice re my brakes on my mk4. The brakes have been upgraded using HI-SPEC 4 piston callipers with vented cossie discs up front with solid cossie rear disc conversion. Although the brakes work alright they are very heavy and it takes a some effort to bring it to a halt, are there any mods I can do to make the brakes more efficient/lighter? is there a larger servo or something that fits? Guest avul
did the brake's wrk as they should b4 the conversion? if the servo is not leakin, then it should b wrkin fine! the problem will prob b the master cylinder, if it's got 2 small of a bore then u will need 2 apply more pressure 2 operate the brake's which is wat it sound's like ur discribin. not sure if the biggest master cylinder is the rs turbo one, but that myt b the root u need 2 take, bigger bore master cylinder= less pressure u need 2 apply. hope this help's ur question regards mark oh 2 check if the servo start up the car, pump the brake's 2 build up the pressure of the servo, turn the engine off & leave it 2 stand 4 a couple of mins & pull out the pipe that goes 2 the servo frm the inlet manifold & u should here the air pop as u do this. Guest Lee81
This is common when you have upgraded to hi spec calipers. The master cylinder can't provide enough fluid flow. The original car had 4 pistons one on each corner. You now have 8 at the front front and 2 or 4 on the rear depending on caliper. The best solution is a remote brake servo powered off 12 volt. Hence how the cosworths got around the problem
Guest Smiler
Just a quick tip, the Orion 1.6i (Mk2 - or mk4 Escort shape) uses a bigger bore master cylinder than the Series 2 RS Turbo.
