Guest mk4stu
Hi all, me uncle has a mk5 b rs2000, the head gasket has blown and cannot afford £500 to sort it. I was in the scrappy the other day and they have a Scorpio dohc 2000 i4. I know it's mounted transverse to go rwd but will this engine go straight in the escort? Would be a huge help if anyone knows as he would be able to keep the car. Thanks alot all
Guest markeyboy
i know that the galexy i4 is somtimes used in the rs, so it may do try looking on www.rs200-16v.com youll find the answer on there
Guest steelcabby
as above. but i think they are slightly different. i know the 2.3 galaxy uses balancer shafts etc. not sure about the scorpio. but TBH i thought the scorpio was 2.3 anyway?? Guest mk4stu
So did I at first but they do both 2.0 and 2.3. Well on the spark plug covers some say ford dohc 2000 and ford dohc 2300
Guest steelcabby
they probably all have balancer shafts TBH. all the 2.3's do. but could check on the rs site first if you want. if they do have the shafts it will be abit of a mess around fitting it. you can buy an rs2000 mk5 or mk6 cheap these days for like £300. take the engine and then break the rest to make profit
Guest mk4stu
Balancer shafts? They replacement for cams?
Guest steelcabby
they are located in the bottom end chap
Guest mk4stu
Right. Pain to do then!
Guest steelcabby
i think actually the balancer shafts are only in the 2.3 galaxy? i know they were in the scorpio ones on the earlier models. but not sure about the newer ones. but don't know about the 2.0 ones. as you sure its a 2.0 and not 2.3? you best ask off the site chap. i'm just about to do a 2.3 galaxy block conversion. there are afew rs2000 engines on ebay at the moment too, cheap. or do it yourself and change the headgasket etc. will cost you half the £500 to do
Guest mk4stu
Yeah it's deffo 2.0, he has seen a few engines it's just taking someones word for it. The Scorpio engine is Mint and we know and trust the person, just easier and cheaper to get the engine as it's only £150,
Guest steelcabby
the engines cheaper, but the inlets and water ways are different to the rs2000. so will need alot of work doing either way. better off getting a whole working rs2000 engine TBH. but like i say, ask for more support on the correct rs2000-16v site. they are a great bunch of people on there and replys come instantly
