Guest CelticLegend
Hi all, hope you can help.... Was driving home from work last night and a low branch on a tree snapped off my original electric aerial! Was wanting to replace this at some point with a static bee-sting style one anyway, and as the radio is now no good can anyone recommend one? Needs to be static, black and easy to fit ;-) Anyone done this to their mk6? Cheers guys.
Escort Cabriolet Club
Bee Sting Aerials don't fit properly mate, I tried one on my old Mk5, theres too much of a curve and it sits at a silly angle, I played with the possitioning for an hour, it looked crap !!! I have an universl electric ariel for sale if you want it, the original hole needs to be made slightly bigger but its a good aerial !!! Guest CelticLegend
Hi mate, thanks for this. Was really looking for a static aerial of some kind, bee sting or just a shortish one. You aware of any static aerials that fit, and don't stick out, or is electric the only way....? Thanks again!
Escort Cabriolet Club
I got an Aerial from Halfords which is identical to the original but its not an electric one, I only had it up about 10", picked up a great signal, only problem was it rusted like a bugger so I took it off, rather have nowt than it looking like rusty crap !!! I'm going to go with a Shark Fin on the boot lid and feed the cable down the rubber neck connector !!!
Guest CelticLegend
Hmm, good ol' Halfrauds eh. Reckon I might have to go down the electric route then, shame though as I do like the look of the black bee sting type. More window shopping required.... Don't think a shark fin would work on mine as I have a spoiler.... :msg3: Is there an easy way to stop the motor from working as it's still tring to push up a non existent aerial!? Cheers. Escort Cabriolet Club
Yes just remove the Plastic Push Clips from the Left hand Carpet Trim in the Boot and you will see the motor behind the Bulkhead, just un-plug it !!! A Shark-Fin will look fine, there not that big and as you have a spoiler it won't look out of place like it would if you had no spoiler !!! Guest CelticLegend
Thanks for that mate, looks like I will be in the boot this weekend then! The noise is driving me mad! :msg2: Have you got any links to the shark fins you are talking about, may be worth a sneaky look.... Cheers again! Escort Cabriolet Club
Yes mate, the Link below is the one I orderd, its a 12v Amplified version so it should pick up a decent signal on the Boot Lid, there is a Live wire going to the Old Electric Areial to rig it up to, I know you have to drill a hole in the Boot Lid put thats an easy fix if you remove it !!! You will also need an adapter to take the screw-on feed to the old Aerial to the Bannana Plug on the New one !!!
