Guest notroubleclu
Hi, im going to do a turbo transplant once the weather gets better. Ive never done one before but ive got my mechanic cousin helping. I have a D plate s2 escort rs turbo as a donor (completely rotten underneath but everything else completely original - my nans car from brand new, im 2nd owner!) so its a mfi engine and my cabby its going into is a dplate xr3i mfi cabby. We know we have to swap the whole loom (or chop it from the drivers seat and use the front half and join to the existing back half of the cabby), engine, turbo, intercooler, ecus, and everything do with engine (gearbox etc) but do we need to use the following: 1. fuel tank from rs or will xr3i be ok 2. fuel pump from rs 3. fuel lines from rs 4. suspension (rs one is standard as is xr3i cabby) 5. driveshafts from rs 6. radiator from rs or will all the above work ok from the xr3i cabby system? Also i have electric windows in the rs but not in the cabby. Can i use the motors from the rs and door cards and convert to electric in cabby (as it will already be in the loom once the loom is swapped)? Im not worried about the standard xr3i brakes as im going to be upgrading them to cossie brakes anyway. I cant find a step by step guide anywhere so thought id ask here. I was gonna get rid of the crap abs anyway but what do i do with the rs wiring for the cab when i swap it.Can i just leave it unplugged and take out dash light if need be? Guest notroubleclu
ive posted this section on most of the ford sites and seem to have differing answers. As my rs has abs and my cabby dont (and i want to bin the crap abs) ive been told to use the xr3i driveshafts. Also, been told to use xr3i suspension as not much different but use the rear stabilser bar from the rs. Been told def need to swap radiator as it has the intake for the turbo. Guest blondy2252
well all i did is undo strut tops all engine mounts lift the rs turbo away and lift my cab ontop and bolt it all back on i have use the stanseed suspension because ov the kit i have on the car but i would say that stiffer suspension if posible is better abs i used the rs turbo driveshafs just took the drive belt sensers off. Guest steelcabby
mfi to mfi is all straight swap convertion chap. use your xr3i drive shafts and get rid of the abs shafts and modules from the rs. SO THIS IS THE LIST use xr3i driveshafts fuel tank is fine for the convertion...(same) suspension is fine for the convertion...(even tho i'd uprate them for some g-max 25mm droppers) fuel pump is fine for the convertion....(i even used my xr3i pump for my 2.1 zvh turbo convertion) you need the rs turbo radiator and fan....(turbo fan sits at front of rs rad to allow for the turbo behind) use the rs turbo gearbox for the LSD...... everything else fuel wise is the same. the back pipes stay. some of the metering unit pipes are different as the fuel filter is mounted in a different place to the xr3i one, your work it out, very easy mate. not sure but i think the rs-turbo front anti-rollbar is bigger. swap that too with your cabby one, might be the other way round, but check anyway

Guest bertwheelz
whys my turbo cab running out of fuel then when it has half a tank left??
Guest steelcabby
whys my turbo cab running out of fuel then when it has half a tank left?? not being a twat, but have you got a full tank? or is your gauge faulty? maybe you have blocked lines or a duff metering unit, but i should think you have a duff fuel gauge but then again, was the cab a carb or injection before? :throw:
Guest bertwheelz
ive changed the clocks and it runs perfectly until half a tank? its a strange one? it was a xr3i so should have the same things as the turbo being bosch j tronic ? im puzzelled? its definatly getting 47 litres full,
Guest steelcabby
how many miles are you getting before it conks out?? all the tanks and pumps etc are the same. as long as its all wired up right and you don't have a dodgy fuel sensor, should be fine. can't see why it goes after only using half a tank, thats wierd. theres not really any reason for that to happen, it you have a half a tank of fuel why would it give up? but only work above half? something wrong there mate, but yes your tank and pump are fine for the convertion, they are the same
