Guest purplecab Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 hi guys i have just fitted my new roof to my mk5b which was easy enough to do but i have a problem i got the loom with it and got the wires and relays to the pump right which then run through boot got the wires and switch right ,the wire to batt right and the 2 relays in the footwell right but there is 2 wires i'm not sure of one looks like it has a connection that clips on to rear window and other is just a wire in a plastic sleeve so not sure where it goes i also have 2 wires with a plug on but i asume they go to the ignition for it to be in postion 1 for roof to go up and down any idea's guys Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest purplecab Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 Could it be anover earth ??? not sure they both seem to be in middle of the loom 1 wire is about 2 foot long and other one is about 4 foot long just baffling i have worked out the rest of the wires and all earth wires are in correct places if i explain wires i have done wire from battery..........done footwell relays...............done footwell earth strap..........done switch for up and down .................done loom to pump.........................done boot relays and overheat resistor..................done boot earth strap...............................done ignition block ....................done still leaves 2 wires but now baffled where they go Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest sjc Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 they cennect...if you want them to....to the back of the press studs that the tonneau goes on.....and stop the pump fdrom trying to put the roof up if the tonneau is in place. Guest sjc Posted November 26, 2007 Share Posted November 26, 2007 try again....the only ones I can see you have missing are the ones for the tonneau (you will have to look at a factory fit to see where they connect) you may also have an ignition one missing. Wire from position 1 goes to up/down switch, wire from position 2 goes to saftey relay to stop roof working while engine running. I cant help you with where they are connected or how they are run because I dont have a mk5, am just looking at the diagram charlzy put up. atb ps does it work with these wires off???? Guest sjc Posted November 26, 2007 Share Posted November 26, 2007 well that leaves us with a suck it and see to be honest..... if all the wires you have connected are right and the drawing is right As far as I know there are at least 2 power roof drawings for the mk5...one has 2 saftey relays, the other only one....being as you have said "footwell relays" I take it the 4 relay drawing above is the right one. so it really depends on how confident you are that all the wires you have identified are right. if they are then the 2 that are still not connected are "engine running signal" and "tonneau in place" signal, if that is so...it should work as it is (mine are not connected in) If you havent got a friendly sparky local, i would be tempted to give it a quick flick, but then being a spark Im not that worried if something happens.... be prepared to disconnect battery earth quickly. good luck Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
