Guest Xr3iInUS Posted February 11, 2015 Share Posted February 11, 2015 Hi guys, I was going through heads in my basement, and I have one with the following number: 81SM 6090-BRA 1.6 I believe I got this from a guy who got it from a guy who got it from BAT (British American Transfer). They are a company in Florida USA who used to import cool stuff from the UK for Escorts. They had 3 head packages for our 1.9 HOs over hear using UK heads. Can someone confirm what this number goes to? I don't think I can cross reference UK numbers in the North American parts catalogs. Thanks! I can post a pic if need be. welshlad Posted March 22, 2015 Share Posted March 22, 2015 just did half an hour of googling, the one with the square pattern is a mfi pre 85 head like this one and is apparently the best mfi head due to it having a lot of meat/metal to be able to put bigger valves in it etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mine seem to have a different number than yours and when I googled, I also came upon the xr2i references which confused me as this was presumably the head BAT imported from the UK, did some work on, and sold as an upgrade to our 1.9s. I was always under the impression it was an Escort head. BAT no longer sells Escort parts nor do they respond to emails, so maybe I'll put aside some time to call them and see if they have an old timer there that has some info on what they used. Welshlad, I have actually not seen that one personally! If it's a US number I can cross reference it this week. I have a ton of E7EE heads though. So that says E9 which is 1989..... I am pretty sure we were 100% injected across the Escort/EXP line by 1985.5. We didn't have turbos after 84? Maybe early 85 On the flip side, we just got a 1.6L US engine which was sold as a 1985 HO carb, and it's clearly injected. Again my research shows the only injected models were turbos, which I've never owned so I'm a little sketchy on them.
