Guest Champy13
Is there a gauze or such like in the rocker cover?? I have pressure issues which as far as i can make out can only come from there. I presume the following, as looking at the engine from the front of the car... The pipe from the back/ the sump on the right hand side, which is connected to the rocker cover should blow air/vapour as it seems to be pushing air out well? and then the Left hand side pipe connected to the small inline filter, should blow vapour to be recirculated through and back into the system, isnt doing anything, not a bit of air?? When i removed the right hand side pipe i got air blowing back out of the rocker cover... I hope i have explained it but im soo confused whats causing the oil leaks when the engine is spot on, been compression tested and no oily plugs or smoke when it starts. I have checked all the pipes for the oil system but it still drips from the end of the air box, more so after a run.. Can anyone varify this and also tell me the best way and chemicals to clean the gauze if there is one as mines either really really clogged up or blocked?? Guest Mk4 Kenilworth
There might be a gauze in the baffled part of the rocker cover, I'm not certain tho. I know I had a similar problem but after cleaning out the cover with paraffin it went away. Loads of hard carbonised granules came out tho, which took ages to shake out, but mine had been poorly maintained.
Guest Lee81
Check this link as i've covered this problem many times before http://www.escortcabrioletclub.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/24631-oil-in-air-box-mk5/
Guest Champy13
Thanks Guys. Lee i have compression tested and done everything i can... But that breather kit though very nice isnt what should be As stock on the car so im determined to sort the issue But i wont say never I did try to clean it with a cleaner but presuming its as gunked up as possible, so will try parafin instead as the cleaner wasnt very strong and made a tiny dent in it
Guest Lee81
Its not as it was standard. But as standard the system was badly designed. I've come across this problem for years even on concours cars with less than 10k on the clock. I'm not old enough to work on these cars from new but the earliest one i bought around 6 years old had same problem. That only had 24k on clock at the time. I like you was determined and checked everything. Nothing was amiss. Even bought the new rocker cover and all the pipes. Compression test was fine. 6 months past and went to do the service. airbox had a 2cm or oil in the bottom again
