Guest 2steppa Posted February 28, 2013 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Just had my MK4 1990 cabby MOT'd (both drive shafts, and a wheel bearing mainly) but also the emissions were a pig to sort out. In the process the garage have told me that number 3 cylinder compression is low. My question is; what is the most likely reason, bore/rings or valves? If it's bore/rings it's probably the end for the engine but if it's valve(s) is this an expensive job to get done? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Alanman Posted February 28, 2013 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Other than the garage telling you this information, how does the engine run? Does it smoke? Does it feel a bit flat and lifeless? It's a bit wheezy (130,000 miles) but still has 'enough' get up and go, doesn't smoke, does however need oil topping up every 7-8 weeks though mainly if it's had several high speed motorway journeys. Just drove it home and to be honest it's a lot better since the injectors were cleaned etc still a slight miss now and then but that's to be expected. The pressure on number 3 is 80 PSI not sure what it should be though. Oh well it is what it is at least it's ticketed up for another year and running ok.
