My 1.8 zetec 1997 cab has quite recently developed an annoying problem ,which is when i change up or down the gears the revs take a couple of seconds to drop off which makes smooth gear changing near on impossible. No other major issues. Car ticks over fine at idle.Any advice would be welcome as it is starting to annoy me as it sounds as though i am doing dodgy gear changes(i"m not honestly). Tatty.... Te car doesn't really need it to be honest. I have disconnected mine which has solved the problem although sometimes it stalls at roundabouts etc but it's better than revving its nuts off when changing gear. To unplug the sensor there is a multi plug on the right had side of the engine at the back. It's too the right of the inlet manifold. It's a black plug. Unplug this and it should sort it. Although as I say it may stall sometimes. Let me know if you need me to to give a better description as il pop my bonnet and give more details, I think the culprit is called a speed sensor.
