Guest MnM2301
Hi, i'm having a few issues with my car. . . It started last week when the top hose for the coolant split and leaked everywhere. RAC bloke came out and topped up the tank and used some tape to seal the hose. Since then the car, on start up, judders to the extent the whole car shakes. When driving, it feels like the car doesn't want to pull unless already high up in the revs. then yesterday eve there was a funny smell followed by the temp gage reading high then steam coming from the gap between the bonnet and the off side wing. When I checked the header tank it was completely empty so left to cool and then filled it back up with coolant & water and got it to turn over leaving the cap off as advised. Has any one else had similar problems ? can anyone advise how to solve or even how serious it is ? Cheers
badger
does sound like the head gasket has gone this does normally happen if the car overheated when the pipe split and you lost all the water
Guest Lee81
My thoughts are you have a coolent leak. No tape will hold a split hose water tight for long. Its difficult to say whats wrong. The water escape could have entered the connector on a sensor hence you'll have some engine management issues which might cause loss of power and irratic engine idle/ strating issues. The high engine temperature might have damaged the head gasket which would cause power lose, loss of fluid and maybe the other symtoms you mention. Only way to tell is top up coolent. Put cap on and watch for leaks. Replace anything that leaks. Once no coolent is leaking out keep an eye on the coolent level if it goes down then the head gasket has failed. Guest MnM2301
Thanks for your comments guys. I've bought a replacement hose for the radiator where it originally leaked from, so will start there. Driven a couple of miles and no lost coolant and temp seems okay. Hope it's all okay, we shall see.
