Guest Wilsonpa
My cabby has developed a whine from the front end and it rises in pitch with speed. It also gets louder when coming to a halt. I thought wheel bearings cos the gearbox itself is silky smooth but on the ramp, there is no play in the bearings but there is play where the drive shaft enters the gearbox. With the front wheels off the ground and running the car in gear, the noise is much worse. A mate thinks it is the diff that is worn (87000 miles) and the quickest, easiest and cheapest fix is to change the box not fix the diff. Anyone got any thoughts please ? Many thanx, Paul

Guest Wilsonpa
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm looking on Ebay and local scrap yards for a box and will update thread. How can I be sure that the gearbox I buy will fit OK cos I don't want to start modifying anything. I have the VIN and engine numbers from the V70.
