Overheating

Ok well I have had my car in Spain for the past few months and I am going to bring it back next week assuming that it's still there and it works. I've not been back for a bit. Last time I was out there though I had a slight overheating problem whereby when I came into some traffic at Gibraltar, it started to overheat. It had never done that before, but I'm just a bit worried now that when I go and pick it up I'll have problems again. My main area of concern is getting on the ferry at Santander when it will be a lot of fairly static queuing. So wondered if anyone can shed any light? I'm not that technically minded sadly so I suppose remedial remedies are what I'm after.

For info, the car is a 97 1.8 Zetec Ghia. Quite a small intake really. I can't remember if the fan kicks in or not if I'm honest.

Thanks in advance.

I remember alot of that in Gibralter. First thing I would do is get some rad flush, its easy to use and could well sort the problem especially if the car has been sitting around alot. Also check the thermastat as this might be sticking. Hope this helps.
