I have just finished getting car back together after stripping inside, cleaning everything and checking for rust. I put the stalks back on but now have no wipers or lights and the heater blower isn't working either (not checked other switches). The car starts and all dash warning lights and dials work. Everything pointed to a common earth so after lowering the fusebox AGAIN I noticed a block connector that makes up part of one of the long multi-plugs slightly proud from the others. I released the long multi-plug for better access and pushed home the smaller block connector, then pushed the multi-plug back in place. If anyone who has ever done a fusebox before they will know how many wires have to fit in such a small area. It's easy to miss something as simple as a disconnected plug! Phew!
