Mk6 Electric Window Issue

Hey folks

 

After a long day getting the MOT failures sorted on the car, which were the front pads and the rear shocks, i decided to attack the drivers side window problem.

 

Issue - The window is currently taped into the up position due to the RAC disconnecting all the internal mechanism because it would not raise a couple of weeks ago in the rain.

 

So i took the door card and sound deadening off to reveal the mechanism. i noticed the 2 pin connector was disconnected and that the retaining clip on it was broken. so after a touch of duct tape round the connector the mechanism was making some noise again.

 

However the amount if bolts that the RAC seemed to have removed was amazing. there was a bolt on the bottom of the door and the two other bolts connecting that particular piece of metal. the actual motor and the 2 bolts on the right hand side for a 4 inch slider thingy.

 

Any way the problem is, i cant seem to get the bolt holes to line up. and the more i manipulate it the more the window moves off course.

 

Is there any sort of guide on how to build the window or anything out there, as i think i may need to remove the whole mechanism from the door and give it a try out sode of the door because its difficult to see where its going wrong. and at least that way i could try to build up the whole lot from scratch in the order and way it should be.

 

Any advice or guides out there that can help me?

Hi,

i had the same problem. The best way i found was to remove the glass,unplug the motor and take out the mech.

then once its out you can see how it all goes together.

 

Its a bit of a pain but once its out its easy enough to do.

Thanks for the response and i agree, i think taking it all out is the way to go.

 

How does the window actually get removed? the haynes manual is vague at best and it also points to 2 bolts inside the door through two holes, but i looked through those holes and there is nothing lol

 

Once the window is out the rest of the mechanism should be pretty simple to remove (touch wood) just need to get the window out first :msg3:

Yeah i had trouble getting window out also.

 

You have to half put the window up so you can see where the mech meets the window and through the gap in door you can see a torx screw i think its T30.

 

There is 2 off these along the mech, once undone the window will just pull out(pull the weatherstrip out top of the door first).

 

Then there are 2 bolts on the left of the door which undo the motor,next one along hold the mech then a further 2 bolts which hold the slider.

 

Unplug the motor and the window mech slides out.

 

Once its out you can see how the holes match up.
