Hi

I need to get more power from my alt. I have an up rated Lucas now as i have a 1.6i XR3i Cabby. But i need more then it can put out. So i was wondering what is the max i can get out of this one, if it gets rewound. Or was wondering if anyone has just bought a higher other brand unit. I was looking at spending up to £400 on a new one. The ones rated about 250 look nice to me.

Thank you for reading

the question i have is why?

it is also possible to have a 2nd alt fitted and also have a 2nd battery, but that wont be ideal if what you need it more peak power for say an ice install

I was going to get the solo baric so i am getting two or three optima batteries and so atleast one higher alt or two 150 amps would be nice to provide the power as i am not a cap man.

for charging multiple batteries i would deffo look at the dual alternator route,, just seems safer to me and nicer to have a dedicated supply,,

gl with it

I think duel alts would be the best way to go. But what is the best Alt in size VS AMP output. If i could buy another Lucas and then send them both off to be re-wound to about 150-200 then that would be the way i would go. But theisable or not is a whole other issue, that i will have to ask the companies.

Thanks for replying Charlie

might also be worth looking at diesel alternators,, as they have a higher amp output, the hardest issue i can see you having it matching pulleys

Yeah i have got a smaller diamater one on the current alt. But i am not to sure how much force is required for a diesel alt under high load. I presume more torque is needed when using a diesel alt rather then a petrol engine alt, resuting in the higher AMP output. It looks like i have allot of thinking to do here LOL.

Cheers Charlie
