Guest charlie74
well as the title says,, im looking for any info on swapping a 1.6 to a 1.8 on a p plate mk6 just wanting to know if it can be done easily and what needs to be changed and what parts i might need. not looking for any major powergains,, just prefer larger engines as they seem to be a bit more drivable in town ( used to having the power to nip in and out of traffic ) so looking for better throttle response and 1-3rd gear acceleration thanks in advance for any info you folks can give on a side note,,, i have access to a mazda 1.8gt engine precat which according to the factory gives 140bhp standard, bpo5 block if that means anything to anyone, can that be used? Guest markeyboy
if ya get the doner car swap everything ya can, engine, ecu, maf, if you tahe the engine out of another escort it should physically fit without any issues, if ur taking it out of a mondy there is quite a bit of work that needs to be done ie sump fly wheel waterpump iirc you can just drop the engine in and run it off the 1.6 ecu and bits n peices, but it probably wont give you the best power / ecconemy that you could get if done propperly
Guest charlie74
yeah from my research thats what ive found,, the 1.8 as a lump is a straight swap,, but unless you have a donor car your stuck with the 1.6 ecu due to the ford pats system,, it wont reconise the keys as they are matched to the ecu,, i think ill be on the look out for a 1.8 ghia hatchback to act as a donor so i can take the engine/ecu/keys/locks and various other bits like the bumpers and alloys grille door levers etc,, then finally a set of gti seats to finish it off well it all sounds good on paper,, alot depends on if the car is as good as i first thought,, wont know that till next week when i can get it in for an mot for the shopping list,, have time and patience,, and i need a project,, and the missus approves of this one ) :bird:
