Guest Myrustler31
Hi... I'm aware that the fuel gauge on my 1992 MK5 1.8L 130ps XR3i cabby continually indicates the tank content , even when the ignition is switched off and the key removed. This has been the case since purchasing the cabby some 6yrs ago. Is this situation the norm , or have I an electrical prob ? I would add that with the battery disconnected ,ie, during winter lay up , it stays nigh on fully charged for weeks on end , but when the car is in normal use there is hardly any power in the battery to start the car if it has been left to stand for 4 or 5 days. Looking forward to your feed back....... ....................................Rustler................" The Oldest Cabbier".............
Ian71
Get your battery checked,it may be no good,or your starting motor may be faulty. Fuel gauge is fine it should register fuel reading when ignition is off.
Ian71
Also it could be your alternator not charging the battery,so when you are driving the car the battery is being drained. Good luck.

Good luck. Thanks Ian , I appreciate your help...... I can't see that it could be the battery or the alternator 'cause ,if the car is used on a daily basis ,or reasonably often, then all seems well, the car starts with no prob's what so ever. I thought that it could have been the the fuel gauge causing the battery to discharge , but if as you say ,all this mark of cars have a constant reading gauge , then that evidently rules that theory out..........Anyway I'll have to think about this prob' some what deeper now... Thanks once again..............Rustler..........."The Oldest Cabbier"...........
