Afternoon all, Just had the car out in the sun for a while and now its developed a problem. When accelerating in any gear it seems to struggle to get up to speed, the car is fitted with a cherrybomb exhaust (i know), so I can quite clearly hear it struggelling to go, then eventually the power will kick in and it goes until i slow down or stop and it starts again. I did previously have similar problem on a mk3 with an air leak on intake manifold but not sure about this. I did think the exhaust was at fault (hoping) but when you engage the clutch while its struggleing it sounds ok. Problem just seems to be under load. Really really need some help with this before it goes into a garage. cheers guys

Does it idle ok?

When was the last time it was serviced?

If it idles ok its not an air leak, make sure the fuel filter and plugs have be changed recently, also clean the ICV and throttle body. If this does not sort it check the HT leads as one maybe breaking down and the coil pack could also be on its way out.

Cheers for the info, The car was serviced about 7 months ago, however im not convinced about the ht leads, seem to be given me funny readings. I cleaned the iscv today and im still going to strip down the inlet to check and clean while i am at it... as for idle, well it being an old ford i dont think its ever purred like a kitten should we say but il soon find out. cheers

Thanks for your help, car is now tiptop, amazed that i never thought of that first but hey ho. stripped down inlet manifold and cleaned iscv and anything else that looked grubby, fitted new ht leads and rebuilt, also reset ecu and its running like a dream. cheers for the help....
