Guest Brundish
hi guys im having a big problem with my cab ive just bought it as a non runner. it is a 1.6 with carb auto choke now when you put the key in and try to start it you can hear a click which i think is the starter motor but it onlys turn about a 1/4. so i thought it might have jamed up or have some bent valves so i took apart the cylinder head and check it, it was fine put it all back together and still the same problem. the block and the cylinder head turn fine with a spanner and the timing i right ive put new plugs in as well ive try a fully charged battery and i am now stuck please help im thinking of putting a another engine in it instead. Guest Brundish
ok just tested the starter motor and that works fine tested it with the car battery which was reading 13.4v so i guess the battery if fine too still stuck????
Guest Lee81
Just because a battery reads 13.4v doesn't mean it is any good. Assume that reading was taken just after it came off charge. Lots of duff batterys that are well past use will read that but as soon as you apply load the voltage will drop to 2 or 3 volts. I'd get a new battery as they don't cost much. Next i would clean up the terminals on the starter because a poor connection here will cause similar problems. Before putting the new battery on cleaning up the connectors on the battery leads is also a good idea. After all that if it still wont turn over i'd look at the starter motor. Cars that have been stood up for long periods can have corroded up armatures on the starter. You can hotwire the starter with a spanner so that the solenoid isn't triggered but rotation is. do this for 5 or 10 second at a time several times and this will clean the armature up. Hope this helps.
Guest Brundish
Ok update just tried to jump start it and it cranks over but will not fire, ive put some plug testers in and they all light up not sure if there is fuel going in but the fuel pump works, and when you use the throttle you can see the carb squirt fuel in. The plugs are new and the carb is auto choke. Now I'm really scratching my noodle.
