Guest Gokey
Hi. I had this problem on my mark 5....You may have a flooded carb. If this is the case, check the switch, usually located by the drivers right foot. Give it a good firm tap with a wrench or similar. The switch should pop up. This a safety cut off feature in case of an accident. Turn over the engine and burn off the excess fuel.. reset the switch by pressing it down. Try starting it again. Any probs, Ive got another possible fix if you've got an auto choke. Good luck.
Guest Paul g
NOT SURE IF IT IS AN AUTO CHOKE BUD CANT SEE A MANUAL ONE
Guest Lee81
Your car is mechanical fuel injection. No carbs etc. In all liklyhood the car didn't run out of fuel to cause that problem. There is a pink relay up under the drivers footwell behind the dash. This turns the fuel pump on/off however they are notorious for burning out. Take the cover off it and leave it hanging down. With the ignition in on position you should be able to move the relay arm by hand. You should hear the pump start. Try starting the car while holding the pump running. The relay itself can be repaired if your handy with a soldering iron. It while be obvoius where to repair as the terminals will be dry of solder and burnt. Guest Lee81
It should be there. Only thoughts are the black relay in the purple socket. It is a pinky purple. I think you have found that there has been previous problems and someone has replaced the ford relay with a aftermarket one. No aftermarket relay will function as the ford item does. You need to get hold of a pink relay and then try it. They may have altered wiring here to get it to work hence these connections could also be causing your problems. You can also hot wire the fuel pump with jump leads to make the pump work. This will enable you to run the engine and see if other problems are present. Guest Lee81
I'd hotwire the pump using jump leads to establish the fuel pump works. If it does then you'll need a multi meter to find the section of wiring thats a fault
Guest Paul g
hi guys put new ford fuel pump relay in can hear it clicking on but no power to pump
Guest Lee81
Have you hotwired the pump to ensure it works?. Clean the terminals up and reconnect wiring is a good idea while your there. Once you know it works you'll need to use a multi meter to find out which section of wiring has a fault. Haynes manual is good as it will show which wires are what so i'd check to ensure you have the switched positive + 12v supply leaving the relay. Also check negative on the pump to chassis to ensure thats ok. If you have a fault on either of these its best to route a new cable from the relay to the pump.
