Guest jackdaw
I have had my 89 cabrilet xr3i for a long time, in the damp or rain it's a nightmare - the engine cuts out when driving along - or at a junction/traffic lights..................getting fed up with being sworn at I tried spraying the outside of the two clip distributor cap with WD40 - stupid thing to do as next time it broke down and wouldn't start I wiped out inside dist cap and couldn't get clips back on because of the WD40 - being a dumb blonde i probably put the WD40 in the wrong place. Can anyone help? It is really lethal on main roads - and espe when cutting out in the middle of junctions.
Guest El87cabi
Bit of an odd fault you have there, have you any idea how the moisture is getting in? Unless your cap is damaged or is loose you shouldn't be able to get water into it from the outside. If the moisture in the dizzy cap is oily you'll probably find the rubber o ring seal on the end of the distributer has gone and is letting oil n crap work its way down the rotor arm shaft and into the dizzy cap, you can replace the o ring but that said if this is what's happening i'd just buy a new distributer. Hope this helps you, without seeing the engine and dizzy this is my best guess and i am assuming you've already tried a new cap and bent the clips more so it fits tighter. all the best, el
