MarineIguana
Well it's been off the road for ages and I'm at a loss now and getting tired of it. I have a working coil tested it on the car and it produces a spark but the loom doesn't seem to be powering the coil much (getting 6v) the alarm is fitted and doesn't control any part of the ignition coil so thats out of the question so I am stuck with no car and it's getting darker and colder and I am so close to quitting now. Guest John Baker
Is this an older ingnition system with a ballast resistor? If so then you will have lower than battery voltage unless you check with the key in engine start position
MarineIguana
Have had the key in and on getting nothing been looking for broken/melted/chewed wires but nothing seems out of place.
Guest Hearsepilot
You have to turn the key to the point the engine turns over!
Guest Hearsepilot
It may be there's a problem with the ignition switch because whilst the key is cranking the engine the ballast resistor would be shorted out feeding 12V directly to the coil. MarineIguana
Hmm might be the ignition switch then as I was testing it with the ignition on and cranking.
Guest Hearsepilot
A look at a wiring diagram would help, there may be some setup where the ballast resistor is bypassed by a relay or even the starter motor feed. I cant tell i dont have a diagram here!
