Guest Alanman
The engine bay on BigCab is okay but not perfect so over the winter I thought I'd try a bit harder. There's 2 direction with engines bays and I'm not sure which way to go. Currently the cab has a token amount of alloy and chrome such as header tank, oil seperator, swirl pot etc but theres load more we can get. I all honesty most of these are not really needed other than to look shiney. Its not like the cab get driven hard and needs all these extras. Option 1: Follow Avril and go MORE CHROME. This is to be honest seems the easy option but potentially very expensive. Option 2: Follow what a few of my mates have done with their cars and go 'shaved'. This will mean binning all the unnessesary bits like the swirl pot, oil seperator and anything else thats not really needed. Then hiding all the wires and as much pipework as possible. To go the whole hog I could easily relocate the battery and even remove the heater motor. Any holes or bumps would need filling and smoothing. I do like this look and is so much more effort than the chrome route. I'm not sure if I can make it as impressive as some I've seen. This is an example of when someone has gone to town and it looks sooooooooo cool. There is no way that I could get the MFi RS Turbo looking that tidy but maybe somewhere inbetween? Has anyone gone down the 'shaved' route with the escort before?

Guest Alanman
I was just trawling through ebay for the chrome accessories and they're so f'in expensive. That one reason for the idea. I'll not be doing owt till after Sept but I'll keep you all informed. I'll prob go safe and buy a shit load of chrome but you never know.
gingergman
it would be diffrent to go with the shaved look, it looks ok just kinda looks empty lol, but it may suit big cab due to its style, normal cab id say no, your cab id say yeah! fuck it go shaved! Guest AstonB
Im doing my own version of smooth bay, IMO a car needs to have a function, and the totally smooth bays loose the functional look. Mk4's look good with clean slam panel, inner wings and neat engines, not totally smooth and tucked, but neat. I've relocated my header tank where battery was, and my inner wings are smooth (except a bit where the blacktop engine mount has been cut into the drivers side). I've welded up all the unneccessary holes in the chassis legs etc. OEM+ is the way forward with a mk4 i think. Clean, modern looking, and simple. Makes the nice bits stand out WAY more so they dont need to be as flash. Textures and colours make a big difference.
