ok first of all

you should be able to swap the engine for a 1.8 no probs

how ever if swapping for a 2.0 it will have to come out of a mondeo or focus as ford never made a 2.0 escort

if swapping to a 2.0

you will need to swap ecu too

engine will need to come from a early mondeo for this that way it doesn't have the pats system on it

you need to swap the

sump

oil pickup

for starters

ok thanks for that

i have just found out that is not siezed but it something to do with the head just had it running again but spitting water out of exhaust manifold so think head gasket gone or heads crack.

so im not sure weather to just get it repaired i.e new gasket or head or get a newer engine fitted.

well 2 things to think about

1 probably be same price to fit a new engine as to have gasket done

2 if new engine fitted will you have gaskets done prior to fitting

do right fit once !!!

i'd repair what you've got if all was right with it before head gasket going, but do remember you'll need to remove timing belt and not unless its very new you might as well replace that as well so the expense does mount up if you'd like to go 2-0ltr route theres alot to swap i.e sump and oil pick up ,water pump and flywheel also theres the ecu and wiring to sort out to get it running spot on.
