Hello,

My mark 5 1991 H reg 1.6 EFI cab has a reverse gear problem, when fully engaging the clutch it pops out of reverse even if hilding in place. Any ideas on the problem? Been told worn linkage, what would i be looking for to sort?

Please help.

cheers.

I had a simular problem and was told it was the thrust bearing however it got worse and worse until I lost all gears and could smell burnt clutch material - I ended up changing the gearbox and clutch... gearbox cost me 50 quid and clutch kit 35 quid a days job with me and my mate on the front garden.

could be a knackard gearbox or the gear linkage but as it jumps out of gear even when the gear stick is held id put my money on the gearbox

cheers guys, yeah took a look this weekend and the linkage is all ok and no signs of any damage, so think i'll be getting a new gearbox and fitting it.
