Guest wbutcheruk2 Posted January 6, 2011 Share Posted January 6, 2011 Hello, My mark 5 1991 H reg 1.6 EFI cab has a reverse gear problem, when fully engaging the clutch it pops out of reverse even if hilding in place. I had a simular problem and was told it was the thrust bearing however it got worse and worse until I lost all gears and could smell burnt clutch material - I ended up changing the gearbox and clutch... gearbox cost me 50 quid and clutch kit 35 quid a days job with me and my mate on the front garden.
