Guest Rustler
Looking to fit a pair of "Air Horns" in my '92 MK5 XR3i 130,Zetec Cabbie. Is it feasiable to take the + feed (25a cable)from the starter mtr solenoid to the horn position via a 25a fuse and a H/D relay(pos 30)and energised by the exist'horn wire?......According to the AirHorn circuit dia' the cable from the other side of the 25a relay connection (pos 87)to the horn motor should only be a 4a cable,......can't be right..can it? Thanks Guys...........Rustler "The Oldest Cabbier".......
Guest Paul Grainger
Hi there, What you are doing is absolutly fine, only I would be inclined to take the relay feed straight from the battery, via a fuse of course. 4amp does sound a little on the low side for an air compressor. I would use some 25amp cable and a 15amp fuse, if the fuse blows you could always try a 20amp. Just remember the earth cable for the compressor will need to be the same size, unless of course it earths through its body. Good luck
Guest Rustler
Hi Paul... Thanks for your comments......you've confirmed my doubts on the use of a 4a cable from the 30a relay to compressor....I'll use 25a cable throughout, inc' the earth from comp',...and a 15a (20a)in line fuse. My reason for a take off from the starter solenoid is to eliminate the need to run an extra 25a/30a one ....as the engine bay looks really tidy now, having eliminated or bound most of the "Extra" wires neatly... especially as the solenoid is only about 12" from the compressor position.. Thanks again ......Rustler.."The Oldest Cabbier"...
Guest Paul Grainger
No problem, If you take it from the starter just be sure to do a neat job as you have the heat from the manifild and electric cooling fans to contend with.!!
Guest Rustler
Ok..Point taken...I will therefore probably run the cable in an appropriate sized convoluted outer cover ,well sopported and as far as pos'from the sources of heat you mention.....Once again thanks for your advice.........Rustler...."The Oldest Cabbier"
