Guest RelaxedDiver
Just got back from MOT where it failed on the emissions. It has got a high co reading of around 0.59-0.67% during its fast idle where it should be 0.3% and it .60% on the normal idle, where it should be .5 although I'm guessing that this would be brought down if the other is. The HC and Lambda readings were ok. It had been running virtually all morning so it should have been hot, and a fair amount of beans was given to it to try and clear it. Any suggestions much appreciated its a mk6 1.8 zetec 115bhp cheers seb
Guest Lee81
Failed air mass sensor maybe. They commonly stop working a give a low reading. ECU thinks its taking in really cold dense air so puts up fueling. Diagnostic session needed to be sure though. May have a fault code up already. This will display the sensor reading also. Guest Paul Grainger
If lambda is ok then the engine management is ok. What you have described is a classic example of a faulty catalyst. Give it a bang with your hand and see if it rattles, the core has burnt away if it does. (but watch out they get very hot). See if it is a genuine ford cat, if not then this could also be the cause. You can get cheap and nasty cats from parts factors for around £60, needless to say there is not much of the required precious metals inside it, They are normally good for the MOt when they are new but will fail the next year. I would get a genuine one from ebay! Good luck
