Guest gavintwopies
Rite well here is one that no-one ever bothers to mention when doing the zetec conversion? The accelerator pedal, the 90 spec ones are different and you need oneto use the efi cable on. 88 spec on the left 90 spec on the right..... so once the cable was connected i collected my new drivebelt today and fitted that also. also got my hands on a mk7 escort top radiator hose trim 2" off the end nearest the rad to get it to sit without being kinked. then one of my favourite bits the removing of the purple fuelpump relay. So after 3 primes of the fuel pump i turned the key and whamo... it started perfect al be it a little loud as there is nothing after the downpipe as i need to extend the downpipe to reach the rest of the exhaust but you get the idea. :D
Guest gavintwopies
Well the problem i'm having is that the engine for all it starts and ticksover great wont actually turn off when you switch the ignniton off..... not a big problem but still something that needs adressing by sorcing a different point of the igniton live i think. Guest gavintwopies
Cheers for the comments just been having another look at the wiring diagrams again tonight & accidently stummbled on summit there is a feedback to the ignition feed on the injection cars that basically means if the fuel pump relay energising supply is not making a circuit then when the car is turned off the ignition will stay on and the engine keeps running!!! when the wire was lighting a test bulb the ignition and the engine would turn off, so going to have another go tommorrow and seeif a can get it to behave the way i want it too. Also got the down pipe welded up at work today so thats also on , but like everything that only then pointed the finger at something else, the fire ring is dead and the springs holding the down pipe on are too short too so its now blowing at the manifold. also it had a miss fire on it too as it was only running on 3 when i took the car to the end of the street and back, got a new set here and spare leads n what not so will have another go again soon. more photos to follow. Guest gavintwopies
rite well nothing major has happened other than the car now runs on 4 pots turns out lead no.4 was not fully clicked home on the spark plug And as for the non turn off thing i think i'm on to a winner tomorrow as i'm i off to maplins electronics tomorrow to pick up a 69p resistor that should allow my car to turn off when i take the keyout!!! oh and i bought a litre of antifreeze from adsa for £

Guest gavintwopies
your a rite hero mate, full of the knowledge! glad to hear its running! You and me both m8 took way longer than 1st thought coz of the live feed problem. its looking really good mate im glad you have got it running if you want rid of that old cvh i will take it off your hands im only down the road Great giz a text or a ring so we can arrange a pic up. 07833564946 Excellent good to hear its running ok now hope you get the ignition turning off properly Are you just stalling it to stop at the moment then? No not stalling it as the car was out of tax on the 1st of the month so desided to not tax it in favour of fitting the engine then tax it with my 1st pay of the month I did indeed go to maplins to try the resistor option which worked, but the resistor got way to hot for my liking so opted against it, then tried the relay method but it would not switch off then started to burn out the earth wire!!!!!, so finally opted for what i know works, i feel like i have bodged the job but i now have a escort side repeater linked into the ignition circuit to give it the impression that when the car is running its rigged to the original mfi sensors as it has near identical resistance to the 2 sensors that drive it, so when you turn the engine off it just thinks your turning the original cvh engine off and switches the ingniton feed off........ i'll stick a photo up of my bodge all be it, it works. Yeh well done, and some good info there!!!!!!!!!! Well i think its a little more indepth on the wiring side of things as loads of people have various conversionson the net then at the final hurdle just say "And here it is wired up!!!" like its that easy never seen anyone put up "i had a nightmare with the wiring and had to bodge a indicator to the realy to get it to work!!!" as all the other conversion have been from carb to efi ..... not from mfi injection to efi, while using the original loom to power a seperate stand alone engine wiring from a zetec escort. Guest gavintwopies
Well we had a cracking day today car got 6 months tax this morning the new manifold fitting kit turned up so fitted it straight away so without the manifold blowing, the roof stayed down from 12noon till 7pm the car has done loads of miles today and has not missed a beat, the drive-ability of the new zetec conversion makes it an absolute pleasure to drive, there IS more power there when you need it, i'm not going to say its a missile with a ford badge but its deffo got a bit more poke there, and because of it you find yourself not up and down the box as often because of the extra torque available, her in doors likes it as it is but i'm more inclined to fit the 130ps stuff or i could find summit else to put it all in........ Guest gavintwopies
pics of today when it come back from the big drive out all day. I have yet to design and make a good solid bracing bracket for the MAF to secure it to the slam panel so for now cable ties will have to do. So after the full job was completed the final tell tale from inside the car was this!!! Edited April 9, 2011 by gavintwopies

Guest gavintwopies
So whats next? Off the top of my head i need to: fit a switch to control the electric ariel. fit a set of rst s2 front brakes. fit a electric roof kit. Remove the naff abs brake system. fit my new ford badges and boot decals. central locking motor in the boot. new clocks & white dials. no doubt there will be other items that i will end up doing but i cant remember them off the top of my head. Guest gavintwopies
Well after a week or so driving the zetec its fair to say its quite nippy but i'm starting to get bored so more power is deffo in the cards, but while running it in to find teething problems i discoverd a funny roughness to the engine when it was under load, it kind of sounded a bit like the exhaust tapping on the floor or summit ? Well anyway once the problem was found it lead to was another slight modification The bottom drivers side inlet mounting bolt was fouling on the steel frame around the inner wing rubber mount thus when the car was under load the engine vibration could be felt through the car body hence the roughness. i have never read anywhere of anyone having to do this mod so thought it was worth mentioning. Well after that i desided to have a go at tidying up the white engine bay so it looked well, a little less white.
Guest gavintwopies
Also i have made a few MAF bracing bars made and got them powered coated black so no more cable ties now After a few close shaves pushing the std xr3i front brakes to there limits i have now opted for a set of rst front brakes but have modded the discs to my liking, no fancy bunnies this time just whats needed to do the job.......
