Guest Tina
Hi, The replacement roof on my MK6 is not sitting flat, How do I solve this problem? everything else fits lovely now I've removed a piece of split garden hose from inside the roof rubber above the passenger side window, obviously the car it came off must have had a leaky problem. I have only had the car 2 weeks and am loving it, no doubt I will find more things to fix as time goes by but at the moment I hate the lumpy bumpy roof and any suggestions as to fixing it would be greatly appreciated
Guest Tina
Never mind. on further investigation I have found that both side tension wires are broken. Love this website so full of useful topics I am still learning lol

Guest Tina
Well first i will find where to by them from, then i will hopefully thread them through where the other ones are and secure them either end and adjust the tension sounds easy lol but probably not. if that doesn't work I may get a large hammer
Guest shaun
Hi Tina the side tension cable are on e-bay item number 170005539437. hope this help's sort your problem
Guest Tina
Thanks Shaun it took me an hour to find them and they are now ordered (£6.50 with postage), came back here to see you posted the same item, wish I checked here before searching everywhere lol. Now I wait. Patience is not one of my virtues. My black roof has a white liner hmmmm need a black one me thinks.
Guest Tina
put in new side tension cables and it pulled the roof down tight made a big difference to the lay of it but didn't make it flat. It has foam padding on sides so that is what making it lumpy, i may try to adjust padding when it stops raining here lol

gingergman
i doubt it will go compleatly flat due to wear and tear from stretching opening/closing
Guest Tina
as you can see in the attached image the side tension wires have pulled it down a lot which has also go rid of the deafening sound of wind rush just above my right ear ha ha, but if you look at the top its still lumpy, the only thing i can think of to get rid of this is to poke a crochet hook through the under side of the roof and move the foam padding to either side of the roof frames, trouble is the only time I can do this is when its warm and sunny but when that happens I automatically put the roof up and jump in to go for a drive lol
