Zeus
Hi all I'm hoping there is somebody on here who knows a bit about the roof mechanism on a mk4 escort cabriolet.one side there is a gap between rear quarter glass and the roof. I have tried moving glass, checked the cables which look OK although I haven't removed them.I have the vinyl loose now and still the frame won't align on the passenger side. Looking at the piller the roof frame appears to be about an inch further back and I see no adjustment.Any help appreciated, im starting to lose patience with it now. Thanks in advance. Delfrombefore
Hi mate and welcome Take off your rear panels and loosen the main frame bolts on each side then hook your roof closed then re tighten the bolts That squared mine up with a bit of tinkering Cheers Del Edited August 17, 2020 by Delfrombefore
Zeus
Hi, yea I have tried that. I have slackened the three bolts on each side, taken the rams off as well. I think the frame may be bent, its like that bracket with the three bolts needs to slide forward half an inch but there is no adjustment on them. The drivers side fits perfectly. Delfrombefore
Ahh i see does sound like the frame then not sure theres much more to them under the vinyl
Delfrombefore
Have you undone the strap points the wee 10mm bolts on the metal parcel shelf and tried that for some movement
Zeus
I have slackened them on the passenger side, the side thats being a problem but no joy. If I have the roof halfway up and look at where the hood rests on the quarter near the bracket the passenger one is an inch further away from glass than the drivers side. Trying to post an image. Delfrombefore
Its always these things that tests us mate i was ready for selling mine the other day or burning it out as its over fueling badly due to the ecu needing remapped it was meant to be a plug and play ofab Rs turbo ecu from RM motorsport but it has caused me more headache than anything, now i have fuel in my oil so that also needs changed, even worse when its nice weather lol Take a breath and a timeout get a coffee tomorrow and start again buddy Del
Delfrombefore
If that runner isnt going straight to the top try swapping the rams over incase that side isnt pushing the machanism right up worth a try
Zeus
Yea i know, its always the most simple things that end up being the most complicated. I was a mechanic for 20 years and I have never worked on a sort top mechanism until now. Glad I got out of the game tbh, way to complicated now, thats why I like my old Fords, Vauxhalls and Triumphs
Delfrombefore
Yes they've always been a love hate of mine these cabs but i keep end up going back to them, ive had more than id like to remember but the past 5 years ive calmed it a lot and also they are getting harder to get now ,no more £200 quid shots to strip for parts lol

Zeus
Not a great pic but shows the gap I can get it to half that gap but thats really forcing it. I have always wanted to find a Mk1 Astra GTE but they are like goldust.

Zeus
Thanks. . I spoke to a guy who deals in mk3 and 4's and he said he has come across bent frames a few times and thinks that's whats happened to mine. I'm home tomorrow so I'm going to remove the vinyl and check the frame out. If its bent he has a good second hand one. Fingers crossed I can sort it.
