David Green
Good morning all, a friend has pulled a 1991 cabriolet out of his garage after 15 years, i am helping to get it back on the road. The fuel tank is beyond re using (really badly rusted) so we need one of those. The fuel pump and sender unit are too far gone, same again, need those and the fuel pipe work is perished. Where do we go for the parts please? The engine runs well using a petrol can linked up so we have just got to get the fuel tank and parts sorted and we can get her moving under her own steam. I myself know very little about these cars, its a 1991, registered 24/9/91 efi, apparently a MK5? Would the registration help source the parts? Any help will really be appreciated. He bought the car when he was in his 20's and now retired and wants to get it back on the road, body wise its really good so well worth saving. Vincygav
The fuel tanks you can get them new aftermarket on ebay or bodywork shops. The fuel tank sender unit is a bit more harder to come by new. It would be used on ebay or breakers. The 1.4, 1.6. 1.8, 2.0 EFI all used the same pump IIRC. Just make sure that it isn't the mk6 as many of them didn't have the push fit connectors on the pump IIRC and you would have to change them.
