Calypso Cab
Have had a fault for a while with no Temperature gauge, didn't bother me much, tried changing gauge thinking it was faulty still nothing, bit later changed sender then worked for about 20 mins before alternator light illuminated, unplugged sender light goes out. Thought stuff it I'll leave it, never had a escort overheat it will be fine (famous last words) a few weeks back engine overheated (fan switch) failure Ford's charged me £56 for a new one, which lasted 3 weeks, bought another one from motor factors (a lot cheaper) plugged that in then turned attention back getting the sender problem fixed. Started engine, plugged in sender, and noticed engine dips, so turned it off, and did a continuity test between the two wires that connect to the sender, and there is continuity between the both wires, so traced them, and the blue, and black wire connects straight to battery Negative, while the Red, and White wire enters the fuse box on one plug, and leaves via another to the temperature gauge. So after unplugging all connectors along the loom, and in the fuse box I am still getting continuity along the Red, and White, and the Blue, and Black. I then realise that theres a Blue, and Black also connected to the D+ connection of the alternator, I disconnect this, and the fault is gone. So I think right connect everything back together, and stick my alternator tester on battery to see if its faulty 'Hey Presto' faulty alternator, so get it fixed (£40) put it on, tester says alternator charging OK, happy days NOT ! Connect sender engine dips as before, gauge hits the top as before, but theres a difference, now it burns out the sender, smoke and everything ! Gone through two in a fortnight. Within seconds of connecting it, it gets hot, starts to smell, and produces smoke ! Any advice would be much appreciated.
