f40 cab
Hi stripping engine down and need to remove flywheel. What's best way is there a tool to lock it up while you undo bolts.

Guest username
Not removed one from a CVH but on the engines I have done, it's always been sufficient to jam the flywheel with a screwdriver and undo the bolts with a ring spanner & tap with a hammer. zygott
piece of chain from manifold stud to clutch cover mounting stud works for me
Glewy
Put a gearbox bolt in. Then use a screwdriver or pry bar to lock the ring gear. Then get someone to crack off the flywheel bolts.
iansoutham
My personal preference is a valve bent to 90 degrees and insert it through a mounting hole in the block with the valve head in the ring gear. Works every time for me.
Paul Grainger
Excellent idea Ian. A technician friend of mine had one and called it a special tool. I found an Allen key does just as well.
